Meet Maris Bey, LCSW

Therapist Maris Bey

Hey there, I’m Maris Bey and I provide online therapy to adults in North Carolina. I use a trauma-informed approach to counseling which means I strive to be humble and transparent, make space for you to have choices every step of the way, and provide tools to step into opportunities for empowerment.

Here are some things you might like to know about me to figure out if we are a good fit:

I am not going to give you advice or tell you what to do – I do have some fancy letters behind my name, but you are the expert in your own life. You are in the driver’s seat, and I am the passenger on this journey.

I’m curious – even about the parts of yourself you do not like – The part of you that gets in the way of your goals? The part of you that embarrasses you? Yeah, I am not trying to get rid of them – I want to learn more about them and see what they need.

I have supported a lot of people with intense trauma histories – I mention this because trauma work is not all that I do, but I have worked with many survivors who had bad experiences with therapists being “put off” by their trauma history.

Think we’re a good match? If you’re looking for a therapist in North Carolina (Charlotte, Asheville, etc.) and you’re cool with online counseling, book an appointment.

My Specialties and Expertise

My Training

I earned my bachelor’s degree in social work from Franciscan University of Steubenville and my master’s in social work from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA). I have completed an introductory course on Internal Family Systems (IFS).

A lot of my experience involves supporting survivors of human trafficking in after care services. I currently manage a non-profit program for adult survivors of trafficking in Charlotte, NC. But I have also supported folks with a wide range of life experiences in my role as a private practice therapist.

My approach is designed to help people recover from trauma but can be useful in a variety of other areas, such as life transitions, managing work-life balance, and navigating difficult relationships. I like to use DBT skills to provide practical tools to manage everyday life and build a life worth living. And I love to use the IFS approach to get to know complex parts of ourselves and offer pathways to healing. And at the end of the day, I am a social worker with lots of experience using solutions focused modalities to help you solve problems.

How I Can Help

At my core. I am a believer in the strength and resilience of every person. I strive to create an environment that is safe, empowering, and has room for every part of you. But the cool part about all this is that you get to decide what is safe and what isn’t and when it is time to dig deep or time to self-soothe – I am here for all of it.
